The Schwinger SU(3) Construction - II: Relations between Heisenberg-Weyl and SU(3) Coherent States
The Schwinger oscillator operator representation of SU(3), studied in a
previous paper from the representation theory point of view, is analysed to
discuss the intimate relationships between standard oscillator coherent state
systems and systems of SU(3) coherent states. Both SU(3) standard coherent
states, based on choice of highest weight vector as fiducial vector, and
certain other specific systems of generalised coherent states, are found to be
relevant. A complete analysis is presented, covering all the oscillator
coherent states without exception, and amounting to SU(3) harmonic analysis of
these states.Comment: Latex, 51 page
Response of Perlette clusters to gibberellic acid applied at different stages of bloom
Treatment of Perlette clusters with GA at 10, 20 and 40 ppm concentrations applied at various stages of bloom significantly reduced the number of berries/cm length of lateral, the maximum reduction being with 10 ppm applied at 50 % capfall. This was accompanied by a significant increase in percentage of shot berries. Similar thinning response was obtained with 40 ppm GA applied at 75 % capfall stage without any effect on percentage of shot berries. Quality constituents of berries were not significantly affected by GA treatments.
The Schwinger SU(3) construction - I: Multiplicity problem and relation to induced representations
The Schwinger oscillator operator representation of SU(3) is analysed with
particular reference to the problem of multiplicity of irreducible
representations. It is shown that with the use of an unitary
representation commuting with the SU(3) representation, the infinity of
occurrences of each SU(3) irreducible representation can be handled in complete
detail. A natural `generating representation' for SU(3), containing each
irreducible representation exactly once, is identified within a subspace of the
Schwinger construction; and this is shown to be equivalent to an induced
representation of SU(3).Comment: Latex, 25 page
Hyperglycemia Has a Greater Impact on Left Ventricle Function in South Asians Than in Europeans
OBJECTIVE Diabetes is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic and systolic dysfunction. South Asians may be at particular risk of developing LV dysfunction owing to a high prevalence of diabetes. We investigated the role of diabetes and hyperglycemia in LV dysfunction in a community-based cohort of older South Asians and white Europeans. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Conventional and Doppler echocardiography was performed in 999 participants (542 Europeans and 457 South Asians aged 58–86 years) in a population-based study. Anthropometry, fasting bloods, coronary artery calcification scoring, blood pressure, and renal function were measured. RESULTS Diabetes and hyperglycemia across the spectrum of HbA1c had a greater adverse effect on LV function in South Asians than Europeans (N-terminal-probrain natriuretic peptide β ± SE 0.09 ± 0.04, P = 0.01, vs. −0.04 ± 0.05, P = 0.4, P for HbA1c/ethnicity interaction 0.02), diastolic function (E/e′ 0.69 ± 0.12, P < 0.0001, vs. 0.09 ± 0.2, P = 0.6, P for interaction 0.005), and systolic function (s′ −0.11 ± 0.06, P = 0.04, vs. 0.14 ± 0.09, P = 0.1, P for interaction 0.2). Multivariable adjustment for hypertension, microvascular disease, LV mass, coronary disease, and dyslipidemia only partially accounted for the ethnic differences. Adverse LV function in diabetic South Asians could not be accounted for by poorer glycemic control or longer diabetes duration. CONCLUSIONS Diabetes and hyperglycemia have a greater adverse effect on LV function in South Asians than Europeans, incompletely explained by adverse risk factors. South Asians may require earlier and more aggressive treatment of their cardiometabolic risk factors to reduce risks of LV dysfunction

TOLERANCE SHOWN BY Rattus rattus TO AN ANTICOAGULANT RODENTICIDE
Apart from using 0.005% concentration, the recommended field dose of 0.025% of the anticoagulant is used along with an alternate food for individual rats for a varying number of days. Those that had survived were taken as tolerant, provided they showed an mg/kg intake beyond the tolerance limit, survived a six days of feeding, exhibited bait-shyness and did not exhibit hemorrhage after death. In determining the criteria for tolerance to an anticoagulant by a rat, one should take into account four composite factors. These are, six days of even 0.025% feeding, bait-shyness when alternate food is given, higher mg/kg intake than the tolerance level and a loss of intensive hemorrhage after death
